In consistently innovative ways, Signdance Collective accesses both deaf and hearing audiences to ground breaking new dance theatre performances, through a blend of signdance, signdance improvisation / sculpt, film, live music interpretation and new music composition .
Signdance Collective is committed to artistic collaboration, research and education with an inclusive collective of physically disabled, D/deaf and non-disabled artists, all of whom are highly respected in their own fields.
Signdance Collective work in collaboration with composers and musicians as part of the company's commitment to live and visible music for all their audiences.
Signdance Collective is led by Deaf and Physically disabled artist/directors, working within a unique performance language which the company pioneered and in which sign-language is at the centre of artistic creation.
D/deaf and physically disabled performers and creators working together is crucial to Signdance Collective's work. Sign languag and Signdance is the tool that builds bridges between the two groups and between these two groups and non-disabled contributors.
From its bases in the U.K. and The Netherlands, Signdance Collective tours nationally and internationally.
Signdance Collective are based at Penn School Buckinghamshire, England where they work regularly with pupils throughout the year as well as undertaking other education and development initiatives. Signdance Collective is part of the world-wide sign community, collaborating with young Deaf and Hard of Hearing emerging and mature artists.
