Go Make! - Introduction

Armed with the desire to make new disability artswork in the South East, Dada-South launched Go Make! in 2004 and continues today. Go Make! is a commissioning programme for disabled and Deaf artists to realise new work. Go Make! operates through an open submission proces.

To date the following artists have received Go Make Awards:

Caroline Cardus
Sean Burn
Gary Thomas
David Dixon

Laura Jones
Caroline Ward
Sabine Gruhn
Noemi Lakmaier

These artists impressed us with their energy, creativity and commitment.

Dada-South works with arts organisations across the South East to broaden its reach and to share expertise.

Artists were invited to make work to celebrate the launch of Dada-South in 2005. Dada-South worked with the Lighthouse in Brighton during 2007 offering a digital media commission to artist Sabine Gruhn entitled ‘Nonsense on Stilts'. A partnership with the John Hansard Gallery in Southampton enabled artist David Dixon to work with community groups exploring cultural diversity and disability resulting in ‘Experiment in 12 Parts' exhibited at the gallery during May 2008. During August and September 2008, Caroline Cardus was awarded a second Go Make! award to work with local disabled and Deaf communities to create ‘Hidden Battles' in the astounding environments of Fort Brockhurst in Gosport working in partnership with English Heritage.

Go Make! has enabled these artists to be innovative and brave in the creation of new work, venture into new areas of creative practice, experimenting with new techniques or different genres. The Go Make! Awards have provided the artists with funding to allow them the time, space and resources to experiment. It is only through risk-taking that boundaries are breached and it is innovation and excellence that Dada-South strives for in the South East. We aim to set the standards high and to forge a collaborative and ground-breaking arts practice with the region's artists, arts organisations and disabled communities.
