Pauline Alexander: Artist Hailing from a therapeutic background it is inevitable that, creatively, I explore my emotional responses to outer experiences and negative life challenges.I often use visualisation in my approach. I practise Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism and this philosophy also informs my methods and goals. I work in an integrative way, using the self of me in my aims for authenticity. I explore the various aspects of myself and others using transformational techniques to elucidate hidden truths. The 2007 Arts Council funded project ‘Many Faces of Discrimination' was a collaboration with Jon Adams and Caglar Kimyoncu and described my journey of discrimination experiences. The final installation depicts the external causation and the powerful internal effects. Although often working with negative aspects of life, implicit in the goals of my work (and my hope-filled personality and positive belief system) is the aim for value creation. My art reflects on human and social issues, and is a way of building bridges, to bring art and business together and bring about change. A Counsellor by training, I have worked 1:1 with a range of age groups with emotional, behavioural and psychological problems, including play and art therapy with children. A Disability Equality Training Consultant, I provide training in the corporate private and public sector. As Chair and Committee member of Equality and Diversity forums I have progressed and continue to champion Deaf and disability issues with a passion for inclusion, accessibility and justice. In 2009 I received an Arts Council bursary to attend ‘Creative Momentum' in New Zealand. I am currently on the Sync SE Leadership programme for deaf and disabled artists to progress leadership qualities in the arts sector. |
