Against the Stream: Aaron Williamson
Fri 25 July, Chelsea Bridge, 8.30pm to 10.30pm
Ever felt like you’re swimming against the stream? You’re not alone. Join in an empowering and exhilarating mass participation event led by artist Aaron Williamson to cross Chelsea Bridge – backwards!
You will be given hi-visibility vests which will light up in a spectacular fashion in the headlights of vehicles passing over the bridge, and will walk or wheel backwards en masse over Chelsea Bridge for several crossings. The event is to be filmed for a video work and will be screened immediately after the performance accompanied by refreshments and a chance to meet and chat with the artist and fellow participants.
'Against the Stream' is a phrase with resonance for disability artists such as Williamson, who often experience exclusion from the mainstream art world. Come and increase your visibility on a totally accessible stage – and learn to 'go backwards', and enjoy it! Open to all, including disabled people.
Meeting point: Chelsea Bridge, north bank pedestrian area.
Nearest Tube: Sloane Square
