From the Darkness... Call for Artists

Light in contemporary art at ST PETER’S CHURCH, PRESTON PARK, BRIGHTON

Call for artists to exhibit work of all media which engage with light to exhibit in the beautiful setting of this 13th century church.

The final works selected will be diverse so interpretation of the theme is intentionally very open. Applications are welcomed in painting, photography, sculpture, installation and new media.
Closing date: MONDAY 8 MARCH
Exhibition during the Brighton Festival Fringe 1 May – 23 May 2010

Please enclose the following in your application:
· Up to 6 images of work relevant to the exhibition. All images should be labeled clearly with the works’ medium and size. Preference is for images to be printed on A4 paper but CDs will be accepted using jpeg (jpg) format. Please use appropriate moving image files for film work.
· A short artist’s statement and C.V.
· A non-returnable fee of £6 as a cheque made payable to ‘Mascalls Gallery’

The curator of the exhibition is Nathaniel Hepburn, from Mascalls Gallery in Paddock Wood, West Kent. ‘From the Darkness’ is one of a series of exhibitions from Brighton to Canterbury including works by major international artists including Graham Sutherland, Stanley Spencer, Marc Chagall and Maggi Hambling.

Open Art Exhibition in association with Pallant House Gallery

Enter the competition by going to the website to register, to Upload images of your work and pay for your entry online.

Entrance costs £20 per work. A £10 concessionary entrance rate is available for full time students, under 16s, unemployed, disabled artists and carers.

All profits from entry fees will go to St Wilfrid's Hospice.
Deadline for submissions: Wednesday 31st March 2010
You can enter up to three pieces of work. The maximum size of a piece of work must be no more than 80cm at its largest point; 80cm by 80cm including the frame.

Entrants whose work is shortlisted by the selection panel will be notified by Friday 30th April 2010 and will be invited to bring their work in to Pallant House Gallery on the Weekend of 29-31 May 2010. From these works an exhibition will be created on Tuesday 1 June.

NB Not all shortlisted work brought into the Gallery will necessarily be exhibited.

On Wednesday 2 June  a panel of Judges will award five prizes to the works they feel to be the best in the exhibition of selected works. An awards ceremony, press launch and private view will take place on Thursday 3rd June June. The exhibition will then be open until Friday 2 July.

Conditions for selected works
Shortlisted artists each agree that the original works represented by their respective entries may be exhibited and shall be available for sale at Pallant House Gallery between Tuesday 1st June 2010 and Saturday 3rd of July 2010.

On sales of work the exhibited artists each agree to pay commission of 35% of the selling price to St Wilfrid's Hospice and 15% to Pallant House Gallery’s Outside In Project.

Thanks to the South West Foundation, Gloucestershire Dance is running a pilot 12-day course in central Gloucester to develop the skills of disabled and D/deaf adults aged 16+. The course is FREE to some disabled or D/deaf artists based in the South West.

The course is led by nationally renowned specialists including Marc Brew, Louise Katerega, StopGap Dance Company and Sarah Pickthall.

Broadcast Opportunities for visually impaired people

Course ends late July at the Merstham Community Facility, Merstham, Surrey
The Broadcast Opportunities Course is being run by Redstone.fm, the local community radio station for Reigate and Banstead in conjunction with Meridian FM (East Grinstead). This course runs from mid February to July 2010. This is a FREE course specifically for visually impaired persons and those with other disabilities.

Students will learn basic production and presentation skills together with an overview of the radio industry before having an opportunity to contribute to broadcasts on a local community radio station. In particular, students will gain an understanding of writing and presentation for radio, amongst other facets to do with the structure of the radio industry

The course is run in two parts.
Part 1 is the theory and practical classroom sessions (February to June) and takes place on Fridays.
Part 2 is the practical involvement with Meridian FM (July).

The venue has a training room with a computer suite. JAWS and other accessibility aids will be available.
Applicants will need to be familiar with using computers, in particular Microsoft Word, using the Internet. Additional training can be offered on using access technology. Applicants also need to demonstrate their interest in radio broadcasting.
Merstham is accessible by local bus service and trains on the London to Redhill line. There is a budget to assist with travel costs.

Mervyn Peake 2007 exhibition at Westminster Cathedral

Mervyn Peake Awards 2010 - celebrating the creativity of people with Parkinson's

Launched by the Parkinson's Disease Society and the Peake family in 2002, the Mervyn Peake Awards celebrate the creative achievements of people with Parkinson's in art, poetry and photography.

The awards are held in memory of the late illustrator, writer and poet Mervyn Peake (1911-1968), who developed Parkinson's in later life.
The organisers welcome entries from anybody with Parkinson's, in 3 categories:
* Art
* Poetry
* Photography

You are invited to take part whether you are an experienced artist or you simply feel like trying something new.

A cash prize is kindly offered to the winner of each category through the generosity of the Peake family.

Legacy Trust UK launch an exciting new funding programme

Community Celebrations is now open for expressions of interest. 

Deadline 5 March

Over the next five months, Legacy Trust UK is looking for five 'legacy partners' to help reach out to communities across the UK.
Legacy Trust are expecting the London 2012 Creative Programmers and/or the Legacy Trust UK Programme Coordinators to have initial discussions with any interested organisations about the programme and what you, your organisation or consortia could bring to the table.

Caterina has set aside surgery days in London and Brighton on 9 and 10 Feb - if you would like to attend one of these please highlight this in your email.  As surgery times are limited they will only be made available to organisations/consortia who will be able to make afeasible expression of interest.
