Performing Arts

Extant logoExtant present Forum 4US

Forum theatre for young visually impaired people
Are you aged between 18–30 and visually impaired? Are you interested in drama, want to develop new skills? Would you like to be part of an interactive project and share your work with an invited audience who will be encouraged to join in? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

Who are EXTANT and what is Forum Theatre?
Extant is Britain’s only professional performing arts company of visually impaired people. We are setting up a drama project based on Forum Theatre, which is about giving a voice to those not usually given a voice. It aims to encourage interaction and discussion between audience and actors about issues relevant to the participants. Originating in Brazil, this form of theatre has been successfully used to empower people on the streets as well as in parliament.

What will you get?

• The opportunity to receive training in Forum Theatre techniques from a professional director and workshop leader

• The opportunity to work with a professional writer who will help you to put your ideas into short scenes

• The opportunity to share your work in a showcase presentation to an invited audience who will be encouraged to join in

• The opportunity to meet with other young visually impaired adults, sharing the experience in a friendly atmosphere

You will need to be available
on Saturdays during April and May 2012 and Friday 25 May (additional rehearsal days may be added). Workshops are likely to take place at a venue in Waterloo.

EXTANT will provide

• Access support workers to help where necessary

• Assistance with travel and refreshment costs

This project will be documented and broadcast on Aculco internet radio. Also we aim to develop a Forum theatre team from this project that will enjoy further exciting opportunities once this project ends.

EXTANT is working with Aculco Radio and the Royal London Society for the Blind to put this project together.
This project has been funded by the British Council’s Youth in Action programme.

Writing

Live art almanac - image of foldersCall for submissions for The Live Art Almanac Volume 3

The Live Art Almanac Volume 3 is an international publication of writing on and around Live Art.
The publication will draw together all kinds of writing about and around Live Art, and aims to be both a useful resource and a great read for artists, writers, students and others interested in the field of interdisciplinary, performance-based art.

Live Art Development Agency is looking for submissions and recommendations for The Live Art Almanac Volume 3 - from more traditional forms such as journal essays, newspaper reviews, transcribed interviews, symposium papers, public lectures or book chapters, to digital forms such as blog entries, Facebook pages and Twitter conversations, to even less conventional forms of “publishing” such as emails, diary entries, and letters.

LADA want to widen the international framework futher to reflect the dynamic, international contexts in which Live Art is happening and represent a broader range of writings from around the world. To help us do this we also have the additional support of our international Associates Asia Art Archive (Hong Kong), ArteEast (New York/Middle East) and Ashkal Alwan (Beirut).
If you read something interesting between January 2010 to December 2011, then LADA want to know about it.

FUSE Medway Festival is a free, outdoor arts festival for the people of Medway and beyond.
The festival draws on the best talent Medway has to offer and gives the area a link to the newest and most innovative arts from the rest of the UK and Europe.  For one weekend in June, Medway’s public spaces are transformed, creating exciting, unexpected happenings and spectacular events.

FUSE is committed to the development of new work and to supporting local artists. It is offering three Local Arts Commissions for 2012: one commission of up to £5,000 and two commissions of up to £2,500.

The Spark commissions provide an opportunity to explore new ways of working and to develop your practice. We have tried to keep the criteria as simple as possible to allow greater opportunities for creativity.

Painting of a female figure in a shellOutside In Surgery Days

Pallant House Gallery presents Outside In: 2012, a unique open-entry arts prize for Outsider and marginalised artists.

Submissions remain open until 20 July 2012. Selected works will be showcased in a major exhibition at Pallant House Gallery in Chichester, West Sussex from 27 Oct 2012 – 3 Feb 2013.

Surgery Days are coming to a range of venues in the South East providing an opportunity to support artists to get their work online who may not have the skills or facilities to do so otherwise. The Outside In website allows artists to have a gallery where their work is shown to the public. This allows artists to have an online presence, creating ownership and access for the artist. We are also providing a sense of community for artists who may otherwise feel isolated and allowing artists to gain new skills.

The Outside In team will help you photograph and upload your artwork, write your artist statement and sign you up for your online gallery. Places are limited. Please bring a helper with you if required
